Raffia

Raffia refers to a type of natural fiber obtained from the leaves of the raffia palm tree (scientifically known as Raphia genus). This palm tree is native to tropical regions of Africa, especially Madagascar, and some parts of Asia. Raffia fiber is known for its strength, durability, and flexibility, making it useful for various practical and artistic purposes.

The raffia palm leaves are harvested, and the fibers are extracted from the leaf veins through a process of stripping and drying. The resulting fibers can be natural in color or dyed to achieve different shades. Raffia has a coarse texture and a long, thin, ribbon-like appearance. It can be twisted, braided, woven, or simply used as is in its raw form.
